There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Can someone enlighten me please, I purchased this lense 3 months ago, and Iv'e just read in one of the handy booklets I got with the 30D,  that I can change the mode setting on the IS  from 1 to 2 , but on my lense there isn't such a switch !
Have I possibly been landed with an old lense, or am I missreading the instruction. !!

There are two modes as far as I'm aware; 'on' and 'off' Cheesy

Don't worry, your lens is entirely normal :)

Don, my lens also has only the 'On' 'Off' switch for the IS. I leave mine set to 'On' all the time as that was the primary reason I bought it. I think you will like the lens.

The only time to turn it off is if the camera is placed on a tripod (or if placed stationary on an object to take a photo). All other times I have the IS turned on too :)

Thank's guys, I was starting to convince myself that I'd got an out of date model, so I can now relax and continue shooting.

Hi guys, in relation to this topic, Iv'e just found out ( & you probably already know ) but later in the above mentiond booklet, it does refer to the Canon EF 70-300  f4-5.6  IS  USM lense as having the extra mode settings for the IS, thank's again for your help.
